How printing from the LECOLO works....

There are two types of printing in Wide Area Network systems:

Local Print - Local means printing to a printer that is attached to the workstation you are running.

Spooled Print - Spooled printing involves the POS software creating a file, which is processed by the server's operating system, spooled, and sent to your store's router, using tcp/ip port 515. The router looks in the firewall's port forwarding table to find out whether or not it should let the file through. If it does not find an entry for port 515, the file's access is denied, and printing does not occur. If it finds an ip address associated with port 515, it sends the file to the LPD client running on the PC at that address, which picks up the file, determines which printer should get the file, and sends it to the proper printer. As long as everything is setup properly, and is working, things print. If one part of the sequence is not working, printing does not occur.

Just from the description, you can tell that LOCAL printing is simpler, and more reliable, which is why we use it for receipts. Labels and reports can wait; receipts are a MUST.

In our continuing effort to make the LECOLO the most reliable way to run your POS software, we have been working on several printing projects, that you should know about:

LOCAL PRINT

We developed a method that permits us to utilize LOCAL printing for reports and labels, from any of your workstations. Previously, spooled print was required to accomplish this task.

Nowm using an inexpensive printserver, we can print directly to the printers. Not only does this eliminate the spooled print and the open port on your router, printing is immediate.

We are very excited about this development. Printing is the most problematic area of any computer system, especially Wide Area Networks (WANS), such as the LECOLO. Being able to use LOCAL printing for all print jobs has reduced the number of printing issues to NONE! The only local print problem we've had to date was a USB cable that had come unplugged.

PDF PRINT

Printing PO's and Reports in PDF format.

We've had some requests for e-mailing or faxing PO's. The POS system does not have this ability built-in, so we developed a method to print them in PDF format, permitting you to use the Windows based e-mail or fax client of your choice to accomplish the task.

Full Screen Reports

Reports printed in PDF format can be viewed full screen in Adobe. No more hitting F2 to go back and forth in the screen. And, since you're using Adobe, they are searchable. When you're done, you can save, print or just delete them.

Plus! We'll do the setup for free.
